Waratah, 1902 Steam Tug Harbour Lunch Cruise Completed Sydney Harbour cruise on the steamboat Waratah Thirty of us had a superb afternoon on the historic vessel Waratah, operated by the Sydney Heritage fleet. The weather was perfect despite the not so good weather forecasts. Ross did a marvellous job in locating and rounding up the passengers to allow us to depart on time at midday. We were surprised to find that the vessel had as many crew members as there were passengers, all volunteers and not surprisingly all about our age. An excellent commentary was supplied, advising us of items of historical and current interest. The slow pace of the boat allowed us to enjoy our beautiful harbour and see places that we would normally miss. Those interested were invited into the engine room as evidence that it was driven by the original restored steam engine, restored, and lovingly maintained by the Heritage Fleet volunteers. Thanks to Ross for organising a great day. [Neil P]
